Starting Your Own Graphic Design

Monday, December 1st, 2008

If you have been in the graphic design industry for awhile, have studied the industry extensively, and have made several good contacts, then it may be time to start thinking about forming your own graphic design company. If you are also adept at web design, then this is an added service for your company to provide. This is a great opportunity to take control of your life and let your creativity flow while creating new designs.

graphic design company
Most often a person will start as a freelancer or independent contractor in order to build their resume and portfolio, gain experience in bidding on jobs and handling clients. If you are successful as a freelancer, then you may decide to start your own graphic design services.

It may seem a bit daunting in the beginning but with your experience it will be up and running in no time. One of the first things you should do when starting a company is to write a business plan. Developing a plan is both tedious and time consuming, but it is an invaluable tool for one primary reason – it forces you to come to terms with your business idea.

You will have to decide if your skills at logo design, brochure design, print design, web site design, custom designs, design graphic or any other number of graphic possibilities will generate income.

web site design
Making a business plan is essential when you are trying to start your own company. When everything is organized and well thought out a bank will be much more receptive to giving you a small business loan. There are many questions that you need to ask yourself, such as what unique services your graphic design company will offer over the competition? Is there anything in particular that will make you stand out and put you ahead of all the other businesses?

Having a good solid portfolio is crucial when you are trying to obtain customers. It is your chance to make a lasting first impression and potential clients looking for graphic design and digital design services will usually compare portfolios before making a decision on who gets the job.

If you are not quite ready to go solo with your graphic design company, then perhaps you should consider going freelance. However, it is important that you ask yourself a few questions. For example, have you got extra money saved up for the inevitable dry spells and do you have regular clients who provide consistent work?

Enterprise Unix – Some Background On Solaris

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Back in 1987, AT&T and Sun said that they were planning to write a new version of UNIX, combining the two most commonly used releases at the time – BSD and System V. This new UNIX version would be named UNIX System V Release 4 – SVR4.

In 1991, Sun said that they were replacing their existing UNIX OS, SunOS, with a new version based on SVR4. SunOS was based on BSD and Sun were starting to encounter problems with that variant, and so with an eye to the future Sun unveiled Solaris 2.

SunOS was then renamed Solaris 1, and each Solaris version was made up of the operating environment (Solaris 2.6, Solaris 7, Solaris 10) and it’s related kernel (SunOS 5.6, SunOS 5.7, SunOS 10). The reason for this odd branding was that Solaris would mean the entire operating environment, which included the window manager and other code.

Solaris now uses a shared codebase for both SPARC and x86 products. Previous products had officially been ported by Sun to the PowerPC and Itanium platforms. Solaris is now one of the most common UNIX releases, thanks to it’s power, scalability, and many new technologies Sun include with each release.

With the announcement of OpenSolaris, Sun have completed the process of open sourcing a powerful high end UNIX, enabling even the smallest UNIX consultancy to plan a powerful UNIX infrastructure.

The Sgi 1600sw Screen – Another Technology Triumph From Sgi

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Although best known for it’s powerful graphics computers and supercomputers, Silicon Graphics regularly produces related pieces of high technology. Back in 1998, Silicon Graphics gave the screen industry a boost by launching the ground breaking 1600SW screen.

The Silicon Graphics 1600SW is a flat panel screen with a resolution of 1600×1024. It was, and remains, the only screen to offer a full 16:10 aspect ratio, allowing detailed work for digital effects artists, as well as being able to display two A4 pages of text side by side. The 1600SW won several awards for it’s innovative design, and the screen’s brightness and high resolution still places it at the top end of screen design, over a decade later.

The screen used the all digital OpenLDI interface, which required special graphics cards. Several models of Silicon Graphics computer had the required connector either builtin, or available as an add-in card. Companies like 3D Labs also produced dedicated graphics cards with the special connector, allowing the 1600SW screen to be used with standard PCs.

Since it’s introduction, many companies have also manufactured convertors, allowing DVI video cards to be used with the OpenLDI interface. Over a decade after it’s introduction, the Silicon Graphics 1600SW remains a high quality screen that is very desired after by graphics professionals.

Cnc Foam Cutter Tips And Tricks And Also Foam Cutting Information

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

A CNC Foam Cutter is a machine that cuts blocks of foam into a variety of different shapes and sizes through the use of a computer that fully automates the process. This sometimes is referred to as a hot wire foam cutter because a hot wire is used to make the cut in a block of foam.

Usually the wire is made from stainless steel, nichrome and the wire can be very thick. The wire is heated using a process called electrical resistance which means it gets hot enough (around 200 degrees centigrade) to vaporize the foam before the wire makes contact with it. This process creates a smoother cut and produces a variety of shapes and sizes.

Depending on the length of the wire, the process will cut a shallow or deep cut. The wires have to be held in the machine under a very tight tension to keep the wire from sagging when making the cut. On many CNC foam cutting machines this wire is held vertically so that it doesn’t create the problem with sagging.

These shapes are cut by the cutting wire that is attached to the machine. They will cut either polystyrene or polyurethane blocks. The types of foam that a CNC foam cutter can cut include anything that is thermofusible and expanded. What this basically means is that the foam has to be able to melt at one of the lower temperatures. Some of them include:

§ Polystyrene — these are blocks of balls that are expanded.
§ Polystyrene — this is extruded foam and comes in a variety of colors that include green, pink, purple or gray and these are usually plates that are smooth.
§ Polymethacrylimide — a very expensive material and it is rigid foam with a low density.
§ Polypropylene — which is flexible and expanded and can be a solution to protection from shock.
§ Polyethylene — these are foams that are tear resistant and flexible.

With the CNC Foam Cutter you can form a more prism like or tapered shape in the block of foam. A hot-wire that is under a high tension to cut the foam. There are stepper motors that provide the precision and accuracy for the work and there are components called races that control the stiffness of tension of the wire.

Some CNC Foam Cutter also offer different attachments like a lathe and this allows the machine to use either preformed or stretched wire. Also the machine is able to cut a variety of shapes including spirals or blocks of ornamental structure like balusters for stairways or planters.

There are a variety of uses for foam cutters that include making signage, model airplanes, protyping, lost foam cutting and more. The CNC Foam cutter is a flexible machine and is only limited by the imagination.
Although many people prefer to purchase a CNC foam cutter there are also plans on the Internet that show how to make them inexpensively for hobbyists and others who are interested in working with foam.

Java Program: Coders Creed

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Ultimately, they have declared the outcomes of an self-governing survey on the state of fundamental scale|corporate[/spin] .NET applications programmes programs|practical applications[/spin]. java class

CA, an self-governing IT management computer software company, observed in the survey, guided by Evans Data Corp. (EDC)program in java , that fundamental scale|corporate[/spin] .NET investment maturation is outpacing SUN Java investment maturation. The CA- sponsored survey, which aimed at corporations with 1,000-plus employees and queried 350 software architects and managers involved in creating and/or managing business-critical .NET applications, also observed that a strong market lives for consolidated application program execution management (APM) solutions that support the increased use of both development architectures in the same organization.

“These survey outcomes confirm that .NET applications are permeating in universal corporations and their acceptance and dependability is continuing to increase,” said Mike Allen, director of product management for CA Wily Technology, a division of CA. “This begs the question of how to effectively manage environments that use both .NET and SUN Java. CA Wily advocates a comprehensive application program execution management solution that addresses both with a single solution and helps key Web applications to meet business, customer experience and execution goals.”

The survey observed that most corporations have highly heterogeneous application program environments and that .NET support teams are similar to SUN Java support teams in terms of size, structure, problem types and times to isolate problems. A vast majority of respondents said their .NET and SUN Java groups are consolidated within their support organizations, highlighting the industry requirement for a comprehensive approach to application program execution management. As with SUN Java, management responsibility is spread across departments (development, operations, quality assurance, etc.), and equally required in both environments.

Highlights of the survey include:

- Nearly 60 % responded that their .NET investment is growing, while 50 % said they are adding new .NET personnel; – 57 % of respondents indicated that .NET expenditures comprise more than a quarter of their overall business-critical application program investment; nearly 20 % of respondents put that figure between 75 and 100 %.

“An increasing number of corporations are realizing the benefits of deploying applications built on both .NET and SUN Java. However, with those benefits come the challenges of managing a heterogeneous environment coupled with the unique issues of both development architectures,” said Jasmine Noel, founder and partner, Ptak, Noel & Associates. “To help maximize ROI, IT organizations should use a single tool to manage the execution and availability of .NET and SUN Java applications in the same environment.”

Additional findings on the state of enterprise .NET applications include the following data points on problem causes and slowdowns:java programming language

- 54 % of respondents said that development is the department responsible for .NET support, compared to 69 % for SUN Java;

Do You Need A Customized Pc?

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Are you in the market for a custom built PC? Do you need that PC for your business or your office? Perhaps you have special needs that don’t come on the regular PCs you buy at your favorite electronic dealer.

If this sounds like you then I have something to offer you that you won’t find anywhere else.

Chicago PC can build you a computer from the ground up. No need to spend hours shopping for computers that either have features that you are not looking for or they don’t have all you are looking for. With a custom PC from Chicago PC you will be the one to determine what features you want and which ones you don’t. There is absolutely no need to pay for something you do not need or want.

You may ask why there is a need for a custom built PC. Actually there are many reasons to order a PC that is built to your specifications. You will be in control of what you want and what you need. If you are customizing a computer for your office you will not have any need for all of the added games and frills that are so attractive to the teenage market. You will want a computer that is built to do a job, specifically, your job, and nothing more. There is absolutely no need for you to purchase a PC or any other type of computer if it has features that you do not want or need. You will be wasting money and PC memory.

With a Chicago PC you will have the option of making modifications at a later date should your needs change. With over 9 years of experience in building computers we have the knowledge to put together the package that suits your needs at a price you can afford.

Many people fear that having a computer custom built will leave them out in the cold when it comes to customer support but that is not true with Chicago PC. We stand behind the systems we build because we use only the best components in the industry. We offer you free lifetime telephone support and 24/7 remote technical service. We are very confident in the products we build of we would not be able to make you this offer.

When you purchase a customized computer from Chicago PC you can be assured that you are getting a system that is made to last. You can also rest assured that in the future the computer will adapt and grow with your needs.

You will find that Chicago PC offers you quality at an affordable price. When you purchase a Dell or a Gateway you are getting a computer or PC that was built on an assembly line. Usually the assembly line workers are paid very little therefore they do not care about the quality of the machine they are building. We can meet your needs much better with high quality components that will give you many years of service without the worry of constantly crashing or breaking down.

Perhaps you do not need a computer at work but you would like to have one at home that does the things you want it to do instead of what some company says it should do. Drop me a line telling me what you desire and I’ll be more than happy to give you a quote. With my years of experience I can help you determine exactly what it is you are looking for. I can offer advice on an entire system that will more than meet your needs.

With a Chicago PC you will have access to the best processors and memory boards to be found. I don’t believe in selling you a bunch of useless goods. Unlike Dell, with a custom built Chicago PC you will know exactly what you are getting and you will be able to rest assured that you can depend on your PC to perform up to your expectations. Whether you want to have the very best gaming console on the market or you want to set up your home business, I can provide you with what you need.

If you live in the Chicago area I can also help you with computer repair. My main goal is to provide you with a top quality PC that meets all of your needs but there are times when you just need a little help getting your current computer up and running properly.
